Camp Cancellation 6/3/2020

Summer Camp 2020 Update

Triangle Y Camp extended family,

Due to the effects of the Covid-19 health crisis, the Camp Committee and Minot Family YMCA leadership want to inform you that we are cancelling Triangle Y Camp summer programming for 2020.

This heartbreaking decision comes after many conversations with public health officials, government leaders, the YMCA of the USA, and the American Camping Association. The health and well-being of our campers and staff has been, and always will be, our first priority.

Since 1964 campers have loved spending their time along the sparkling waters of Lake Sakakawea, riding horses through our prairies, leaping fearlessly off of our rope swing, and enjoying all Triangle Y Camp has to offer. Many of our campers come back year after year to this place which creates experiences that last a lifetime. Those who enter through our gate understand that camp is so much more than a place– it’s a feeling, a people, and a culture.

This decision was difficult. The Covid-19 pandemic has been full of difficult moments. As an organization Triangle Y Camp works diligently to connect our youth with meaningful opportunities for growth through outdoor experiences, social connectedness, and hands-on education. The nature of what we do is close-contact. Not being able to build that community in person creates an inexplicable grief for what we could have had this summer.

The factors that we used to make this decision aren’t necessarily the same ones that other camp programs will, or even should, use. Every situation is unique. While we believe this is the right decision for Triangle Y Camp, it is by no means a definitive guide for other camps. We are dedicated to being able to offer a quality experience for every participant, and we are determined to be able to offer these opportunities again in the future.

We are not in this alone. Despite the challenge of not being able to spend starry nights in Douglas Bay together camp is more important now than ever before. We hope that you will support us and help us grow through this, as we have been growing campers for 56 years.

We can’t wait to share future adventures; we anticipate that time when we are able to be together again being even more impactful and meaningful.

We are in this together. We can do difficult things. And we look forward to serving you in 2021.
