Through a Capital Campaign organized by
the Y's Men, Triangle Y Camp was able to
purchase an Alpine Climbing Tower and a
Team Development Course in 2003.
Adventure learning is becoming an
integral part in leadership experiences
and we are proud to have the opportunity
to share our state-of-the-art leadership
facility with our campers and our
community.
The tower is composed of many elements
and diagonal beams. It reaches nearly
50 feet tall, has team climbing
capabilities and
is universally accessible. The tower
has various levels of complexity and
difficulty; some of the most challenging
courses running through hanging and free
flowing elements. For the real
thrill seekers, there is also a tower swing in
which participants can swing 30 feet
above the ground.
The tower is operated with a philosophy
we affectionately call "Challenge by
Choice." This allows each climber to
participate to whatever degree they feel
comfortable. A climber's success is not
measured by reaching the top, but rather
by reaching personal and team goals.
Within walking distance of our Climbing
Tower is our Team Development Course.
This area of our facility is
specifically designed to help recognize
and develop leadership and communication
skills. Through guided instruction by
our highly-trained staff, participants
navigate on and through a series of
grounded beams and obstacle courses.
Using their creativity, problem-solving
skills, and leadership abilities,
participants work as a team until their
task is complete. Participating in
these activities provides a more hands-on and fun way to identify a group's
strengths and challenges. As with the
tower, success on the Team Development
Course is not measured by quickness or
the completion of a challenge, but by
honing and acquiring the skills
necessary to create effective teams.
